Your Questions About the Blog Answered

Ever since we launched Simply Sisters Collective in December, we have been asked a lot of questions and we love it! Some of you are thinking of starting your own blog & most of you are just curious about what in the world we are doing and trying to make sense of it all. Regardless of your reasoning behind the questions, we thought that we would compile a list of some of the most-asked questions and get them answered for you!

If there’s a question we don’t cover, let us know & we will try to get it answered for you!

How many hours a week do you spend on the blog?

This is definitely the question we get asked the most. To be honest, it varies week to week depending on what we have going on, but I would say on average, we are spending about 10 hours per week on the blog. Some of that is spent working together and some of that is spent working on it individually. It definitely takes up a significant amount of time. Fortunately, we came in with realistic time expectations when we started the blog because we had some fellow blogger friends who were very open and honest about the time commitment. We’re thankful for this because it definitely looks a lot easier than it actually is! We’re also hoping to spend more & more time on it as it grows!

Do you make any money off the blog?

Time & money. Those are the things people most want to know about! As of now, we do not make any money off the blog, it has truly been a labor of love. With that said, we would love to start working with brands we love to be able to make at least some income. We would like to be able to sustain the amount of time and energy we are putting into the blog and this would allow us to do that. We also have a lot of dreams, ideas, and plans that we would love to see happen within the Simply Sisters Co community, but we do have to pay to live, which leads us to our next questions...

Do you have “real” jobs?

Yes! Of course we do! A girl’s gotta eat, right? Sarah is a Camp Gladiator trainer (if you’re a DFW local, you need to come check out one of her camps!) and she is a pediatric RN at Cook Children’s. I work from home as an online business manager. What does that mean? Glad you asked! You can find out more information here.

Who thought of the idea of starting a blog first?

I would say that I thought of the idea first. I’ve always loved to write & I LOVE getting to come up with content ideas & am definitely a dreamer at heart, but to be honest, never really thought about doing it on my own for whatever reason. I had joked with Sarah about how we should start a sister blog once we moved into our houses but at first she was not into the idea. One day though, she brought it up and said that she might actually be interested in starting a blog together. The rest is kind of history. We started brainstorming ideas late spring of last year and really started planning towards the end of the summer & we launched in December. We fought through a lot of doubts and insecurities along the way, but we definitely felt like it was something that the Lord kept bringing us back to & so here we are!

What are your long term goals with it?

We don’t want to give to much away because we do have some fun stuff in the works, but we would love to see this community grow! As I mentioned before, we have lots of fun dreams & ideas for this blog, and we are hoping to get to spend more time on those over the coming years! We want to keep posting on the blog as we are (and hopefully even be able to post more often) and then add in some additional projects and ideas that we are really excited about! Is that vague enough for you? ;)

Why did you start the blog?

We started the blog as a way to share what is going on in our lives, what we are learning, and what we are loving. Ever since we became backyard neighbors, we get a lot of questions about our lives and what we are up to, so we thought that this would be a perfect platform to share a little insight into everything! We’re constantly learning and growing & wanted a place that we could be open and honest about that. We definitely don’t have this whole life thing figured out, so we wanted to invite other women into that and share from a place of honesty about where we’re at and what the Lord is teaching us. We also wanted to provide a place that we can share what we are loving! If we love something, we really love it & we want to share it with everyone we know, so we wanted a place to be able to do that, as well.

What’s the hardest part?

I would say the hardest part is having to constantly battle through feelings of inadequacy and insecurities. It’s really, really hard to put yourself out there. We sometimes worry what people are thinking about us and our content. It’s really hard not to compare yourself to other bloggers or influencers who are doing similar things. Thankfully we have each other to constantly point the other to truth, but there are definitely days that it is harder to fight those lies than others.

Who takes your pictures?

A variety of different people! We have been blessed to have photos done by two of our favorite photographers-- The Three Photography & Caitlin Wilson Photography, but unfortunately, they can’t come take photos for us every day! We take a lot of photos for each other and then Trey & Kyle have slowly learned how to be good Instagram husbands. We are always looking for photographers who are wanting to build up their portfolios, so send any aspiring photographers our way!
