Spring Cleaning Challenge | Week Two

The challenge this week is to tackle a closet that is in desperate need of some TLC. Our closets get out of control very easily. I firmly believe that it is because we have TOO MUCH stuff. Plus, it is where we shove all of our stuff when we are trying to get ready for people to come over quickly. So, pick the closet you want to work on & here we go…

  1. Take everything out of the closet. Everything. It’s so much easier to sort through it all when you can lay it all out.

  2. Sweep, vacuum, or dust, if needed! Our master closet is the closet I decided to work on & it was kind of embarrassing how dirty the floors were and how dusty the shelves were.

  3. Start sorting! Take some time to go through all the items you have piled up & separate them into three piles -- “keep”, “donate”, “sell”. If you struggle with getting rid of things,I highly recommend, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. After I read Marie’s book, I was much less hesitant to purge our home of items that we weren’t using and that were just taking up space.

  4. Organize the remaining items. This is going to look different depending on what kind of closet you are working on, but I encourage you to take time thinking through how you can organize it to where it is the most functional. If you are in need of some storage bins, these Y Weave White Storage Bins from Target are some of my favorites!

  5. Put the items you want to sell on Facebook’s marketplace or put them in your car to take to your local resale shop. If you’re taking them somewhere make sure to put time on your calendar this week to actually drop them off! Same with the items you are going to donate-- don’t let them end up in another closet for the next 6 months. No, I’m not speaking from experience on this… why do you ask?

  6. Celebrate that you have a really clean closet & tag us in your photo of your new clean closet on social media and use #SSCOspringcleaningchallenge because we want to celebrate with you!
