The first month of 2018 has almost wrapped up we wanted to check in with you (and ourselves) to see how your resolutions and goals are going? I'm not even totally sure how it's already almost February!
Sometimes, even with the most realistic, attainable resolutions or goals it is daunting when we get to the end of January and feel like we have already failed on some of our resolutions. Maybe it’s time to refocus (again) and spend some time evaluating why we chose certain goals. If January didn’t look quite look like how you wanted it to, don’t give up on yourself and the things that are important to you, you’ve got this and we’re here to remind you of that!
If you made a very general goal maybe it was to spend more time being active, and you haven’t made it to the gym more than a handful of times, it might be a good idea to revisit that goal and make it more specific. It’s okay if you didn’t work out much in 2017, but maybe you make your goal to make it to the gym or go for a run 2-3 times per week instead of thinking you can get it in 6 days a week for an hour. Just tighten that ponytail and give it another go, you'll be so thankful that you did!
For me the resolution/goal that I struggle with the most is unplugging from my phone and from social media. Most of the work that I do is on my phone or the internet so it is very easy to quickly go from working to browsing on Instagram and then before I know it I am watching hair tutorials (you do that too right?!). I’m giving myself baby steps when it comes to unplugging and spending less time on social media, but setting aside one distraction free night, which for me is on Tuesdays. On Tuesdays my phone goes on airplane mode after 7:00 pm and Kyle and I spend time eating dinner together, and maybe even watching one of our favorite TV shows or a movie together. Slowly but surely I would love to add unplugging one weekend per month. This is not easy for me and there have already been Tuesdays where I have failed at this, but confession is where it’s at and I’m reaching out to my accountability partners so that they can show me accountability and grace. Praise Hands!
If you’re struggling with your goals, here are some of my tips for staying motivated or getting back on track:
- Talk with your accountability partner and encourage them to help hold you accountable. Depending on what your goals are will determine what kind of accountability works best. If you are wanting to get back in shape, you may want an accountability partner who will meet you at the gym. If you’re working towards eating healthier, you may want someone to text you at a certain time of the day or week and ask about how you’re healthy eating is going. If you’re trying to wake up earlier and establish a morning routine, it may look like taking a quick picture of where you are at 6:30am and sending it to your friend.
- Schedule your goals into your calendar. This makes you prioritize it & stick to it!
- Reward yourself for sticking with it… Sometimes you need a little extra motivation by treating yourself to a new pair of leggings or tennis shoes that make you excited to workout. Is it just me or is it more fun to workout in clothes that you love too?! Or, maybe if you get up early every day for a week and stick to your new routine, you treat yourself to your favorite Starbucks drink! It can be big or little, but treat yo self every once and awhile.
Maybe your resolutions/goals have changed now that the year has begun and maybe God has revealed to you something new that He wants to teach you in 2018. It is never too late to pray and dream about the year, so I want to encourage you to refocus. Give yourself grace in every goal and resolution you set, however remember why you set that goal in the first place and use that as a tool to keep you on track! 2018, we’ve got big plans for you and we can’t wait to see what God teaches us this year.
