As of Monday, I am officially 30 weeks pregnant! Earlier this week someone asked if I felt like pregnancy had gone fast or slow. I answered “both”. In some ways, I feel like I have been pregnant for ten years & in other ways, I am in disbelief that my due date is in ten weeks! I’m so ready for her to be here & at the same time, I have so much to do before she gets here! I feel like there’s been a lot going on the last few weeks so I thought I would just write it all out in a blog post!
Weight Gain & Baby’s Growth
If you follow us on Instagram (and specifically if you watch our Instagram stories) you probably know that I have struggled to gain weight in pregnancy. Back in November, at my last appointment in the second trimester, one of my midwives expressed a little bit of concern in regards to where I was with my weight gain and the doctor who follows my autoimmune diseases was significantly more concerned. I tried not to panic, although I would be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t a little worried, and I began to implement some different things to try to amp up my weight gain process. I ordered a scale, starting tracking my calorie intake, ordered some shakes from Smoothie Box, and tried my best to eat every couple of hours. It definitely helped that it was also around Christmas time when there was food everywhere to eat!
I went back in for another midwife appointment right after Christmas and had gained some weight! I’m definitely still not in “normal” (what even is “normal”?) range but she was happy with the progress that I made. However, since I have Hashimoto’s, she did still want to do a growth scan of little Collins to ensure that she was growing ok! When you have thyroid disease it can impact the growth of the baby. I wasn’t super worried because I know my thyroid is well-managed, however, since I hadn’t gained a ton of weight, it made me a little uneasy going into the scan!
Well, we went in for the scan on Monday, right at 30 weeks, and baby girl looked perfectly healthy & is currently measuring at 3.5 pounds! We are so thrilled & so relieved that she is growing on track!
I also may have had the ultrasound tech double check that she was, in fact, a girl! I had a dream recently that she was actually a boy and just wanted to make sure we weren’t going to have any surprises in the delivery room!
How I’ve Been Feeling
I felt pretty good throughout most of my second trimester (thank goodness!), but towards the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd, I started to get reallllly tired again. Most days I need at least 20 minutes to just shut my eyes if I want to make it through the day.
I’ve definitely had to pee constantly & some days it feels like my tailbone is about to explode because of the pressure, but I know those are all signs that she’s growing, doing what she’s supposed to, and *hopefully* with all the pelvic pressure it means that she’s still hanging out down low so that when we get to the last few weeks she won’t have to drop too far!
The past week or so I have also noticed that I’ve been a little more irritable & hormonal… lucky Trey! According to my pregnancy app though, it’s to be expected! I don’t know who is more ready for me to not be pregnant, me or Trey!
Prepping For Baby
We have just been busy planning and prepping for baby to get here! Her nursery still just currently has a crib, a dresser, and a side table, but her rocking chair should be coming in soon & we have started receiving a few gifts from our registry so those are getting thrown in there for now until I can organize it all! It’s all starting to feel more real! We’ll probably wait until after the shower (which is in less than two weeks!!) to do much more on the nursery just because we don’t know yet what we will still need or want!
In the meantime, we’ve signed up for some classes to help us get ready for her arrival! The hospital we are delivering at offers so many classes and we wanted to take full advantage since we literally feel like we know nothing. We’re taking classes on breastfeeding, baby safety & CPR, baby care basics, & childbirth! Our hope is that we will feel at least a tiny bit more equipped than we do now, but we totally know that once she comes we’ll probably forget everything and it’ll all be trial by fire!
As far as books, the only one I am currently reading is Babywise because this mama is all about figuring out how to get her sleep! Be sure and let me know in the comments below or on Instagram if there are other books that were helpful for you in this newborn, new parent stage!
I’ve also thrown my suitcase & a few things we for sure want to take to the hospital in a corner of her room. I haven’t done a whole bunch of packing but as I have ordered nursing bras, tanks, and other essentials, I’ve just been throwing them in there!
What I’ve Been Loving
Here are a few of the things that I have been loving a whole lot lately…
I have been living in two types of leggings & I absolutely recommend both! Blanqi Maternity Leggings and Lululemon Align Leggings. Seriously don’t know if I would be wearing pants if it weren’t for these!
My pregnancy pillow has been an absolute lifesaver & I don’t actually know if I’ll be able to get rid of it once I’m not pregnant because I love it so much!
Babylist! We set up our registry through Babylist & I have loved how easy it has been. Instead of having to set up different registries at different stores and remember what you registered for & where, it allows you to have them all in one place and it even price compares!
Urban Outfitters’ Out From Under Jojo Oversized Thermal Button Top is also another thing I’m obsessed with -- I currently have it in two colors & want more! I know that these will also be great for nursing once Collins makes her arrival! Just a heads up -- they are on sale right now, as well!
Well, that pretty much sums up what’s going on, how I’m feeling, and what I’m loving at this point in pregnancy! I can’t wait to see how the rest of this pregnancy journey goes and more importantly, I can’t wait to meet my baby girl!
