I can hardly believe that I am already in the third trimester with our baby girl! After the first trimester this pregnancy has absolutely flown by and I can’t believe we are less than 3 months from meeting our baby. Today, I wanted to take some time to share with you all some updates on how the last few weeks of pregnancy have been, to reveal our baby girl’s name and then to share a couple of my favorite items so far!
We absolutely LOVE our baby girl’s name and have actually had it picked out since before we knew that we were having a girl and I wanted to share the story behind it with you.
Her name is...
Conley Jane Leafgren, and we are already pretty smitten with her! Kyle and I both wanted our baby to have a name that was unique but that also meant something special to us. I’ve actually only heard of the name Conley one time before, I know someone who has a daughter named Conley and I always thought it was so precious and I loved that it was different, but not too strange or hard to pronounce. Conley means “wise” and “strong-willed” and it is an Irish name. I mentioned it to Kyle one day after our morning workout and he agreed that he really liked it, but wanted to wait to decide since we already had a couple other names picked out. One day while out at lunch with his family, Kyle texted me to tell me that he heard a couple talking to their little girl and that her name was Conley and at that point he decided that he for sure loved it. I absolutely love my middle name because I am named after my grandma, and I wanted to name our baby girl something special as well so Jane is after my mom whose name is Janet. I pray that our little girl has the sweetest, caring and easy-going disposition just like my mama. I have loved being able to call our little girl by her name and how Kyle and I have been able to talk specifically about her and pray for her by name which has definitely made me feel more connected to her. I can’t wait to meet little CJ in just a couple short months.
An update on pregnancy since my last update…
Week 24 and 25
A friend of mine is in school to be a radiology tech, and I was able to go in to her school and have another ultrasound done, which was so much fun! I can’t complain at all that my pregnancy has been pretty uneventful, but this has meant that I really don’t get to see the baby on an ultrasound as much as I would have expected. I was so excited when she asked me if I wanted to come in to have an ultrasound done so I could see my baby again and also have the chance to do a 4D ultrasound as well. I did have a Chick-fil-a diet lemonade prior to going in for the ultrasound so luckily baby girl was cooperating on getting some amazing photos during the 4D ultrasound, I LOVED being able to see some of her little features like her nose and pouty sweet lips. She was sleeping with her hand clenched up right beside her face which is exactly how Kyle says he finds me sleeping most nights. It was definitely a great experience and I’m super thankful that I was able to see her and take home some cute pictures that I can’t stop looking at.
Also about now was when my belly & belly button really popped. I definitely expected this to happen, but I had no idea that other women’s belly buttons didn’t pop out. Although I struggled at first with people constantly commenting on how big I look now, I am pregnant, so I’m choosing to take those comments as a compliment instead of hearing in my head “you’re looking very large.”
I’m still not craving anything special at this point, but I’m hungry pretty much every 2 hours and feel like my cravings are never for anything healthy, however, I am a big fan of salads now so we will see if that continues.
I had my glucose tolerance test at week 26 to test for gestational diabetes. It’s so funny because online everyone shares their experience of just how awful the glucose drink tastes, however I really didn't think it was bad at all. Maybe because I grew up drinking Tang and Crush orange soda, and orange is my favorite gatorade color, I thought it tasted surprisingly good, and I think baby girl did as well, because she was dancing all around in my belly afterwards. If she is anything like her mama she will definitely have a big sweet tooth. I was pleased that I passed and don’t have to make any special changes to my diet.
Swelling and foot pain. I always heard women talking about how much their feet hurt when they were pregnant, but oh my goodness they weren’t lying. I have yet to find shoes that my feet don’t hurt in. At first whenever people offered for me to sit down when pregnant I would always thankfully decline and say “I’m fine,” but now I will sit down any chance I get. My tennis shoes aren’t comfortable, my birkenstocks aren’t comfortable and heels are just out of the question at this point. Also I’ve started wearing compression stockings at the hospital to help prevent my feet swelling after standing on them for 12 hours, and also to help prevent varicose and spider veins. My feet get pretty swollen by the end of the day and I will never again turn down a foot rub. I think I’ll schedule a couple pedicures before the baby comes just to have someone rub on my feet for awhile.
Things I am loving right now..
My Leachco u-shaped pregnancy pillow. I was really struggling with sleep in the second trimester because I am typically a back sleeper, and I was trying my hardest to sleep on my sides. I love the u-shaped pillow because it allows me to sleep on my side, yet my back still feels supported. I don’t know how I ever slept without one of these things and I’m not sure how I’ll go back to sleeping without it after she is born.
Comfy pajamas are what I live in. Regardless of if I’m only home for an hour in between errands during the day I immediately change out of whatever I am wearing and throw on some comfies. My favorite is a jumpsuit I fell in love with from Anthropologie, it even feels like the material is cooling which is amazing with the triple digit temperatures we’ve had this summer. All of my favorites are linked in our “shop” tab.
Baby Conley’s nursery. We started getting the nursery together a couple weeks ago and I have been in full on nesting mode ever since. After assembling our crib, I can’t stop walking by her room just to peek in at everything and just daydream about the days that I will spend playing with her on the new rug we got, or reading all the cute little books that we’ve been given so far. I already can tell it’s my favorite room in the house, I look forward to all the memories that will be made in that little room.
