4 Easy Ways We Spruced Up Our Backyard

IMG_1648.jpg

Sitting on our back porch is one of our very favorite ways to unwind after a long day. As soon as the temperatures warm up, that's where you'll find us (until it's too unbearably hot to sit out there, but usually it cools down enough at night). We still have a long way to go on our back porch, but we have definitely started making progress. Here are a few ways we spruced up our backyard & back porch this summer & what we want to do next!

Added Patio Lights

Simply Sisters Patio Lights

There is just something so dreamy about a strand (or few) of patio lights. Plus, if you like to play cornhole, it adds enough light to allow you to see. Our lights are actually from our wedding (you can see the photos here) but you can find ones just like them here. Kyle & Sarah used these around their porch!

Moved the Grill Off the Porch

Trey did such a good job!

Trey did such a good job!

We have a long & narrow porch which gives us plenty of room for both a sitting area and a table, but when our grill was on our porch, it was making everything just a bit too crowded. We had decided that we wanted to move the grill off the porch this year & immediately Trey started envisioning what it would look like. I have to say that I was very impressed with how it turned out! We already had the brick left over from when our house was built, and the rest of the materials probably cost around $300.

Added Some Outdoor Pillows

Simply Sisters Ballard Designs Americana Pillows

How cute are these Americana Indoor/Outdoor pillows from Ballard Designs that I got as a gift? Pillows are a great way to add a little festivity or color without having to invest a lot of money. I'm already on the hunt for the next set of outdoor pillows. We also added this couch this summer! I looked for weeks & weeks because I had a specific look in mind but didn't want to break the bank.

A Little Touch of Florals

Ignore the grass that needs to be cut and edged!

It's always nice to have something to look out at when sitting on the back porch. Our best investment when it has come to the garden are our Crepe Myrtles. We planted them last year & have been super impressed with how hearty they are in the Texas heat. They are absolutely gorgeous!

As I said before, we have a long way to go! Here are the things we are on the hunt for next... a couple rugs, outdoor ceiling fans, some extra chairs or poufs to sit on, a fire pit, and a long way down the road we'd love to get a new table because ours has seen better days! If you have any favorite places to shop for outdoor furniture, leave us your recommendation in the comments!

Ashley
