Mid-Year Reflection

Is it just me, or did the first half of the year fly by at a million miles per hour?! I feel like we just sat down and wrote out our New Year's resolutions and intentions, and now all of a sudden it’s June 13th and I am wondering how we got here so quickly. Since we are halfway through the year, I wanted to take some time to reflect on the first half of the year and to check in with some of the intentions I had for 2018 and I thought you might want to do the same. I came up with a couple questions that were helpful for me to reflect on the year so far, and I wanted to share them with you in case you’d like to join us.

  • What were my goals at the beginning of this year? Did you forget them? Totally ok! If you wrote them down somewhere it’s a good time to take a look at those now!

  • Are my goals the same, or have things changed? I know for me, a lot of my fitness goals changed when I found out I was pregnant with baby girl. It doesn’t mean I want to write them off totally and forever, but sometimes adjustments need to be made or they need to be pushed back until later in the year or even next year! For example, running a race just wasn’t something that I felt was a healthy or safe thing to train for in the Texas heat this summer.

  • Is there something I’ve been doing this year- like a project or commitment, that’s not feeling “right” anymore? Do I need to keep doing it? What would happen if I took a step back or maybe if I stopped? Sometimes the Lord is prompting us to let go of things that we are holding tightly to.

  • What is ONE thing I definitely want to achieve, experience or even create before the end of the year? It can be something as simple as going to a concert or show, or maybe it’s planting some flowers in your flower beds, or maybe you’re finally going to start that blog/book/podcast!

  • Who are some people I feel jealous of right now—and why? What do they have—or appear to have—that I want? This is a tough one for me, but I think social media makes it so easy for us to covet others little perfect space they’ve created on the internet and wish that your life looked a little different. It’s a good heart check.

  • Who is someone who has had an incredible impact on my life this year? Like an amazing friend, mentor, or co-worker? Have you said “thank you” to them yet this year? Maybe you can write them a note, or send them a text right now and let them know how thankful you are for them and the role they’ve played in your life this year.

  • What prayers has God answered this year? What prayers are you still praying? Praise Him for His faithfulness and keep clinging to Him and pressing on. Maybe share some of your deepest prayer request with your accountability partner or prayer group.

  • “This year, one of the best decisions I made was _______.”

  • And lastly, “This year, I feel proud of myself because _______.” For me personally it’s this blog. Ashley and I launched the blog at the very end of 2017, and it is one of my favorite things I’ve had the opportunity to do, and it is teaching me to be vulnerable and also creative.

Maybe you’ll want to answer those questions in your journal, or maybe discuss them with a close friend, an accountability partner, or maybe over dinner with your spouse. I think it’s a good time sit down and rest with a grateful heart and praise God for the way He has answered prayers in the last 6 months, and praise Him for how He is moving in your life this year. Also, this might be a good time to make some new goals, or fine tune the ones that you already started. Let’s be women (and maybe men, if you’re reading), that pray big prayers for 2018.
